Argentina -- Buenos Aires: El Basilisco

The El Basilisco artists residencies program is a project coordinated by a group of artists looking to broaden possibilities for national, regional and international cultural exchange. The program brings together artists from the interior of Argentina with others from abroad, to participate in an intensive period of production that includes events to facilitate interaction with artist peers from the local scene, students and general public. We provide living and working space in an old house in Avellaneda for a period of up to three months, for two or three visual or multidisciplinary artists at a time. Artists stay in private bedrooms and share a large kitchen, studio and working spaces and several outdoor patios; wide band access to internet is available in addition to a shared computer and other facilities.

The city of Avellaneda was the industrial heart of the country at the beginning of the century, strategically located close to the port’s activity just outside Buenos Aires, and today it is an area full of large warehouse spaces with a more ‘local’ pace than downtown Buenos Aires.

Our activities began in September, 2004 as part of a non-profit cultural program that is made possible due to the personal efforts of many artists and members of the cultural community along with essential support received from local and international institutions.

Global Perspectives residency available for one artist for two months during the period 6 August-10 October 2006.
