IS -- Guðfinna Mjöll Magnúsdóttir
For the Social Perspectives on Architecture and Design residency in Reykjavik
the local contact person is Guðfinna Mjöll Magnúsdóttir.
Guðfinna Mjöll Magnúsdóttir is a designer, graduated from The Icelandic Academy of the Arts in 2004, and works as a freelance designer. She has a weekly column about design in Morgunblaðið (the oldest newspaper in Iceland) with four other designers and works for Safn, a contemporary art museum in Reykjavík. Currently she is working on a project for the summer exhibition in The Reykjavík Art Museum.
Since 2003 I have been working with a group called Takk fyrir síðast. We have shown our two biggest projects in Milan, Designer For a Day in Salone Satellite 2003 and Winner For a Day in Designersblock 2005. The group is located in Iceland, where there are very few production companies and a little industry. As designers we had to find a new way of bringing our designs to the people. Therefore our projects have been presented as a magazine and as a record. The magazine and the record can be mass produced but the ideas inside them are all handmade, either by us or by our consumers. We give our consumers the opportunity to produce our design so they can add their personal touch to the product. (www.takkfyrirsidast.is)
Vík Prjónsdóttir is a cooporation between 5 designers and Víkurprjón, a knitting factory in Vík í Mýrdal in the south of Iceland. The aim is to use all the technology, knowledge and production skills of the factory to create wool products based on Icelandic cultural heritage and myths.
Other recent projects include: a multifunctional space for The Living Art Museum designed with one other designer and two artists. Borðið; a catering service that designs food and drinks for all kinds of occasions. Borðið is run in cooperation with Brynhildur Pálsdóttir.
