For the Social Perspectives on Architecture and Design residency in Stockholm at Malongen the local contact persons are at Uglycute

Uglycute is a group consisting of two artists, Markus Degerman and Jonas Nobel: one architect, Fredrik Stenberg; and one interior designer, Andreas Nobel.

Uglycute has been working together since the year 2000. The different backgrounds of the members is also reflected in the work the group does, which can be said to move between these fields. The collaboration started with the production of a fanzine and has since developed to include exhibitions, interior design, workshops, as well as teaching.

Uglycute is interested in the social and political connotations that always are inherent in design and architecture. Therefore, part of the group’s work can be seen as critical discourse about the subject, which sometimes means recommending methods, aesthetics and results, which reevaluate accepted truths. The work of Uglycute has related, for instance, to taste, the importance of handicraft, finish and the meaning of materials. Parallel to the practical work, it is also important for the group to engage in workshops, lectures, as well as in writing.
