The Factory of Art and Design - Fabrikken for kunst og design - is an old industrial laundry, connected to a, now former, Hospital. It is situated on Amager, 10 min. on bike, or with metro, from the center of Copenhagen. The Factory, is an artist run place with app. 50 studios.

The studio is approximately 40m2 with lots of light.
Accommodation is organized separately.

Here are possibilities for working with photo, wood, iron, textiles, seriographics, ceramics and there is a big hall of 1000m2, where one can produce huge constructions. The Factory house all kinds of artists, designers, set designers, magazine editors, web designers, etc.

The Showroom

The Showroom is the first non-commercial exhibition space of its kind in one of the most upcoming areas for innovative and dynamic Galleries. The space is a white cube of mobile walls situated inside the large production hall. There are new shows every month and curators with a worked out concept can send an application to the Factory with proposals for a show.

The white cube inside is, beside being the space for showing art, surrounded by artists and artistic production. The paradox of what is signifying the art – and space – is thus turned upside down. The Showroom can be seen as a paraphrase of the theory of Brian O’Doherty. In the book Inside the White Cube he discusses how the exhibition space is naming the art piece and alienating the audience. This text has been mentioned in many considerations around site specific works and installation art the past three decades. In the case with The Showroom the old problematic is trivialized with the mobile walls making possible and almost osmotic process. The Showroom has been reserved in June 2006 for the Nordic AiR artist-in-residence.
