Norway -- Pikene på Broen in Kirkenes

Nordic AiR 2006 residencies available during the periods January-April and August-December 2006.


Pikene på Broen is a culture production company located in the small town of Kirkenes, North-East of Norway on the border to Russia and Finland. Our activities are mobile and we promote cross-border culture cooperation locally and within the Barents Euro Arctic region.

We are interested in all kinds of topics that are relevant to our area and local society; as the mainstream heavy industrial “ten-ton thinking”, the cultural diversity of our community with people from more than fifty nations, questions about ethnicity, identity, concepts of territories, landscape and borders, i.e. structural borders between nations, members and non members of NATO, EU, Schengen, the border of wealth and poverty, cultural, lingual borders and differences, etc.


We would very much like to host artists that generously could contribute with perspectives on our area and situations, artists that would be interested in cooperation, initiating and/or participating in activities, maybe interested in presenting art in an alternative way since a gallery is not in our possession. We plan to make the festivals Barents Spektakel annually in early February. This would be a nice event to take part in and/or to contribute to if the artists wish (www.barentsspektakel.no). We usually have most of our other events and activities in the autumn. Please take this into consideration in your application.


We operate through our offices in Kirkenes. As a working place for the artist, we offer one of our offices and there are also alternative working facilities to be found in connection to a local workshop and the school. We would make our very best efforts to find a most suitable space when we know the needs of the artist. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
