Photography is the base in my artistic work, the material I start with, but I also use other medias, such as video, sound and sculpture.
I am interested, not to say fascinated, by urban space. In most of my pieces or projects I have investigated places, picking up details that constitute them. Sometimes to show social or political structures, sometimes to document the process of memory, fantasy and longing that projects in the cosmos a room, a house, a block or a city can become.
When parts of an environment transform, maybe the whole concept of it can evolve.

In Koppelo, where I stayed for one month, I tried to rediscover my finnish roots. Finland was, and still is, both strange and familiar to me. Its a mystical landscape for me, with a mix of my own memories and those inherited. There I’m reminded of fate, destiny and chance, and that identity needs reconsideration.
I always connect Finland with log-cabins, the small and simple version. They form part of the geography. I’m in the process of working with that type of construction, making models of them but building in other influences as well, so they maybe can become some sort of crossing point of different worlds.

In the piece ”les occupants” for Sen’Art en Fôret (june 04 – jan 05), I worked with the the problems that Senart lives with, as a periurbanic forest. I wanted to transmit an ambivalence; towards the place in itself, and towards the notions of forest and city. I wanted to create questions around the process of growing and around the difference between the constructed and the natural.
The identity of Senart is created also by the noise from the motorway, the litter and the contaminations. Not only organic processes carry its evolution, also man’s hand and what it brings. Therefore I chose a place for the installation where this pollution was obvious, just by the motorway crossing where trades no one wants to know about take place.
The sculptures are mutants, both urban attributes and plants, like if a seed from the streetlamps of the highway was crossed with treepollen, like if the forest and the surrounding city had children. Or like the image of their dialogue.
Daytime they shimmer through the trees, hard to discover like a group of strange animals. Nighttime the lamps illuminate the site and each other, and create a new space. A transcendental meetingplace.

“Nostomania” is 150 photographs (9 x 12 cm) of parabolic antennas in the neighbourhood outside Stockholm where I grew up (a typical seventies suburb of concrete buildings where a lot of immigrants now live). These antennas change the faces of the buildings; the architecture is affected by these people.
The antennas can be seen as an outcrop of longing, to take in the familiar broadcasts when the outside world feels strange. Or as flying saucers for alienated to sail home with.
I chose to use b/w, small-format film, to use and to play with a documentary easthetics that can be dated to the constructionperiod of these particular buildings and that can be both socialrealistic and romantic.
“Nostomania” has previously been shown as a stillimage-film.
