Mukul is artistic codirector of ambientTV.NET (www.ambientTV.NET), where he collaborates across media including film, live performance and the internet. Much of his work is concerned with the creation and transmission of sound; informed by a background in science and Indian music, it plays along the borders between music and noise, rule-bound forms and chance, and technology and tradition.
Some of his practice involves community media projects such as the East End Net (a self-organising wireless network infrastructure for independent media in East London), Bow Space (a multimedia memory map of Bow made with older residents), and Suvara (a project uniting refugee and second genetration immigrant musicians in Linz, Austria). He also works with text, and intends to further explore the combination of sound, text and the body in the future.
Mukul has worked extensively with dance in a range of environments, from underground electronic clubs in the 1990s (notably, in London: Talvin Singhs Anokha and Calcutta Cyber Café), through to more formal settings by contemporary choreographers such as Russell Maliphant and Akram Khan.
