It's better to build than to fade away
A project by Oskar Lindström and Martijn van Berkum
During the residence in NIFCA ( Januari until April 2003) I worked in collaboration with Oskar Lindström on the project 'It's better to build than to fade away' which will be carried out in various towns. The project is a research about the different ways construction is changing small and big towns. It juxtaposes local cultural identity of the town next to global and economical interests in the strive for the utopian urban landscape.
In Helsinki a billboard is put up in the Kämppi area ( until 04-06-2003 ).
The project is carried out in co-operation with NIFCA, the Helsinki City Art Museum and artists' association MUU.
