SLEIPNIR
SLEIPNIR has been the Nordic Council of Ministers travel grant program for young professional practitioners of the arts in the Nordic countries.
Since 1998 SLEIPNIR has been administered by NIFCA.
SLEIPNIR covered all the arts: theatre, dance, visual art, design, architecture, music, film, literature and interdisciplinary. It has been targeted at increasing the mobility of artists and to encourage activity across the entire Nordic region and adjacent areas. SLEIPNIR especially aimed to support new approaches to art and collaborations between different forms of art.
Each year, around 300 000 EUR has been awarded by a committee of experts appointed by the Nordic Council of Ministers. The committee has included representatives from the Nordic Centre for the Performing Arts (NordScen), Nordic Film- & TV Fund (NFTF), Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art (NIFCA), Nordic Literature- and Library Committee (NORDBOK) and Nordic Music Committee (NOMUS).
Between the years 1999 and 2006, a total of 3059 grants have been awarded to practitioners of the arts, rendering possible collaborations, research and exchanges within the Nordic countries, the Baltic countries and North West Russia.
SLEIPNIR travel grants has been supporting international travel within the Nordic countries and from the Nordic countries to the adjacent Eastern area: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, as well as, Northwest Russia (Murmansk oblast, Republic of Karelia, Leningrad oblast, Pskov oblast, St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad). Artists living in the Baltic countries and North-West Russia could apply for Sleipnir grants from their local Nordic Council of Ministers information office: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Russia.
In 1999 the Sleipnir program received 496 applications of which 365 artists received a grant.
In 2000 the Sleipnir program received 469 applications of which 332 artists received a grant.
In 2001 the Sleipnir program received 698 applications of which 354 artists received a grant.
In 2002 the Sleipnir program received 573 applications of which 297 artists received a grant.
In 2003 the Sleipnir program received 656 applications of which 326 artists received a grant.
In 2004 the Sleipnir program received 743 applications of which 443 artists received a grant.
In 2005 the Sleipnir program received 741 applications of which 415 artists received a grant.
In 2006 the Sleipnir program received 750 applications of which 527 artists received a grant.
