Edited by Rebecca Gordon Nesbitt
Texts by four students at Konstfack: Frida Cornell, Stina Högkvist , Marianne Hultmann and Marianne Zamecznik
The use of video as an artistic medium increased exponentially throughout the 1990s and has attained a prominent position in the Nordic countries. BLICK provides access to new Nordic film and video work produced by emerging artists. As the result of an open submission process, advertised in the main Nordic art publications and through a poster campaign, 666 video works were submitted for consideration. A selection of around 40 works was made by Rebecca Gordon Nesbitt (Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art), Maria Lind and Cecilia Widenheim (both Moderna Museet). The selected works have been compiled and screened, accompanied by related discussions, at NIFCA, Helsinki 6-7 October 2001 and Moderna Museet, Stockholm 20-21 October 2001. Subsequently, they have been made available for an international tour.
The catalogue for the compilation of BLICK: new Nordic film & video 2001 includes short presentational texts (in English and in Swedish) on all the art works selected for the compilation, with an introduction by the curators.
BLICK 2001 is a collaboration between Moderna Museet and the Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art, NIFCA.
