The Populism Catalogue

Edited by Lars Bang Larsen, Cristina Ricupero, Nicolaus Schafhausen

During spring 2005, the Populism exhibition opened in parallel in Vilnius, Oslo, Amsterdam and Frankfurt, at the same time focusing on different histories and geographies, as well as different publics. By addressing these various contexts, the exhibition sought to highlight the multiple character of populism, a phenomenon which can take any imaginable form and continuously develops new local or national discourses.

The catalogue contains documentation of the Populism exhibitions at Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius; National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, Oslo; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt am Main. It contains works of fiction, rather than conventional catalogue essays, as a literary approach to the theme. It includes photos by Andrea Stappert, who traveled to the four venues to document each exhibition.
