Residencies: Introduction

NIFCA Residencies 1997-2006

NIFCA has run a wide range of artist and research residencies and international exchange programs. The activities have aimed at providing artists within and beyond the Nordic region with new possibilities, contacts and networks, by awarding residencies for periods of time in various sites throughout the Nordic region and beyond. Through this increased mobility, NIFCA has wished to support artistic collaboration, initiate new contacts and projects, and increase dialogue between regions.

All NIFCA residencies have included:

· Studios or access to work space
· Accommodation
· Monthly grants (840 euro/month)
· Artist presentations in the artist gallery at www.nifca.org (the gallery no longer on-line)
· Various opportunities to create contacts and participate in local activities and/or concentrate on individual projects

Nordic mobility program for professional visual artists after 2006

In 2006 the Nordic cultural collaboration under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers is undergoing a structural reform. As a result NIFCA and its residency program is closed down 31 December 2006.

In 2007, the Nordic cultural collaboration is continued by a new structure Kulturkontakt Nord, which also intends to work with a mobility program for professional artists.
