The Nordic Mobility Program for Visual Artists beginning 2007
We at NIFCA, Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art, have since 1997 been honored to collaborate with numerous residency hosts in NIFCAs Residency Program for professional visual artists. Numerous interesting artists have participated, carried out work, and made local connections, quite often resulting in new collaborations with the local art scenes.
NIFCA has since 1997 been the Nordic Council of Ministers expert organ for visual culture: visual art, architecture and design. NIFCA has been a part of the Nordic cultural collaboration. In 2006 the Nordic cultural collaboration is undergoing a structural reform. As a result NIFCA and its residency program will be closed down 31 December 2006.
In 2007, the Nordic cultural collaboration will be continued by a new structure Kulturkontakt Nord. It will also include a mobility program for professional artists.
On 27 February 2006 the Nordic Council of Ministers organized the first Nordic Culture Forum. The concept for a new Nordic mobility and artist-in-residence program was presented. The report is available in Swedish at: http://www.norden.org/pub/sk/showpub.asp?pubnr=2006:516
By the end of April 2006, a working group consisting of two people from each of the Nordic countries and one from each of the Autonomous Territories will present proposals for the actual implementation of the culture reform especially for the art field. Input from the Nordic Culture Forum will be part of that process, which will look at all aspects of Nordic cultural co-operation and will include learning from the experiences of the institutions to be closed and discussing new ideas and models for the future. The ministers will then decide how to continue the co-operation.
We at NIFCA hope that the new mobility program will to a large extent be able to incorporate the collaborations NIFCA has developed together with residency hosts in our program. However, we do not yet know the specific structure of the program and the possibilities it affords.
During fall 2006, we are anticipating on having more information about the new mobility program and the new structure for the Nordic cultural collaboration.
As we receive new information about the structure reform, we will be updating our website.
