Global Perspectives 2006
Artist-in-Residence exchange program between the Nordic countries and
Beirut, Buenos Aires, Cairo, Shanghai, Singapore, Yangon.
The bilateral artist-in-residence exchange program for professional visual artists was launched by NIFCA in 2002 in collaboration with residency hosts in New Delhi (IN), Akiyoshidai (JP), Taipei (TW). For 2006 it has been developed in collaboration with residency hosts in Beirut, Buenos Aires, Cairo, Shanghai, Singapore, Yangon. These are partners working in an engaged manner that we at NIFCA have got to know through our collaborations and networks during the past years.
The program aims to negotiate cultural differences, explore the potential to engage in inter and cross cultural activities, as well as to further art practices. The program is developed in negotiation with the residency hosts. Through open call, 6 artists based in the Nordic region are selected by an invited panel for residencies at each of the hosts. Reciprocally, NIFCA hosts 6 artists, at its center in Helsinki, selected by the residency hosts from their respective regions. The duration of each residency is planned to be 2 months.
