Research Residencies

NIFCA invites curators, journalists and researchers to its centre on the island of Suomenlinna, near the port of Helsinki. The research residencies are open to visitors interested in the Nordic art scene who wish to:

· contribute to debate in the Nordic region
· research the Nordic contemporary art scene
· work on projects and themes that situate Nordic art in a global context
· take part in Helsinki's art life
· meet artists, curators and researchers at NIFCA

Guest apartments are available throughout the year for residencies of 1-2 months. Visitors have free access to workspace and library at NIFCA's office. Residencies include a monthly allowance of 840 EUR.

Freely formulated letters of application with project descriptions and possible attachments are welcomed three times a year.

A good application is clear and concise. It would usually include a cover letter with a motivation statement, a project plan for the residency (1-2 pages) and a curriculum vitae. Additional material is also welcomed, for instance writing samples, catalogs or other publications.

It is advisable to apply, at least, six months in advance of the intended residency, to ensure that there would be a guest room available.

During July-October 2006 NIFCA's guest rooms are still available for
research residencies of 1-2 months.

Postmark deadlines for applications: 1 March 2006
