Latvia -- Art Home at Artists' Union of Latvia in Riga

A studio has been available in the Artists' House in Riga since 1998. Riga, the capital of Latvia, has 800 000 inhabitants, and is the largest city and commercial centre in the Baltics. Riga is known for its active cultural life and has good connections to other Baltic cities. The Artists' House, built in 1960 on the banks of the river Daugava in the old city centre, houses a number of artists' studios, a printing shop, the Centre for New media culture RIXC, a shop for artists' materials, and the administration and gallery of the Artists' Union of Latvia.

Separate accommodation (15,91 m2) with separate shower and toilet is organised in the Artists' House. Artists are responsible for their own meals, materials and transportation.

Nordic AiR residencies at Art Home in Riga offer the artist-in-residence the possibility to engage with the local community. Artists will be asked to organize a workshop or give at least one lecture for the local artists. At the end of the stay each artist will have to organize an exhibition or presentation as a result of the stay in this program, this may be a solo or group show in combination with other visiting or local artists. Please take this into consideration in the motivation statement for the application.

Nordic AiR residencies are available during January - February, April - May, October – November 2006.

Facilities available for the artist:
There is one studio (32,76 m2 ). The AiR program at Art Home collaborates with the Centre for New Media Culture RIXC and is for a participation fee able to provide access to work at their Media Lab. The AiR program also has contacts with other art and culture organisations and residency centres in Latvia.
