Nordic AiR

The Nordic and Baltic Residency Network for Visual Artists

NIFCA's extensive network of residencies, open for all visual artists based in the Nordic and Baltic region, involves a wide range of highly diverse locations and opportunities. The network includes studios and artist apartments throughout the whole Nordic and Baltic region and provides artists with the possibility to explore the region, create new contacts and develop existing networks, participate in projects and activities at the various locations, produce and present their work, develop new ideas and collaborations.

How to apply:

All professional visual artists based in the Nordic and Baltic region are eligible to apply, including the following countries and regions: Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, Åland Islands.

The only restrictions are:
* artists are eligible for a NIFCA residency within this program only once every two years
* studios are usually not provided in one's country of residence
* one should have a completed art education by the application deadline, i.e. students may not apply

APPLICATION FORM Nordic AiR 2006

First register as user in the system. Then, in a new window the application form becomes available, by clicking on 'create new'. The application form is easy to use and fill in. The required information includes: CV, description of artistic practice, motivation for residency and documentation of work. Attachments may be enclosed electronically, as well as, be sent in by postal mail. If using postal mail, please, use the reference number received from the application system.

You can log in to the system as many times as needed and continue filling in the different parts and editing, before submitting the form. Documentation of artistic work and other electronic enclosures can be attached to the on-line form, saving the trouble and cost of sending attachments by postal mail.


All the residencies include:

· Studios or access to work space
· Accommodation
· Monthly grants (840 euro/month)
· Artist presentations in the artist gallery at www.nifca.org
· Various opportunities to create contacts and participate in local activities and/or concentrate on individual projects

Residencies are available from 1 to 6 months. Please see below, for more information on opportunities at each location and possible restrictions regarding the duration or time of the residency. If a residency artist wants to bring along family members, the artist needs to make a separate agreement about this with the hosting organisations.

Selection process

The artists will be selected by an international panel, who wish to use this opportunity to gain knowledge of the work of a multitude of contemporary artists in the Nordic and Baltic region.
